Autumn Equinox – Bring Hygge into your life

Autumn Equinox marks the start of Autumn (or Fall) in the northern hemisphere. This is when our days become shorter and we experience the harvest full moon. This is the perfect time to bring in some hygge into your life as we transition into this season.

  • Time to declutter and get out the warmer clothes, cosy socks and comfort blankets
  • Use the journal prompts below for yourself over the next few days
  • Create a list of books, films, recipes you can look forward to on the darker evenings
  • Fit in time to rest, especially if you have had a busy summer. Rest is a time when we can reflect on what is important to us and when we have slowed down we can bring the best of ourselves out into the world.
  • Get outdoors and bring your senses to life with sights, smells, colours and sounds. Gather Autumnal treasures and forage to bring the season back into your home
  • Create or update your hyggekrog to signify the change in season bringing in reds, oranges, creams, yellows and browns
  • Time to get out the candles, and gentle lighting to create ambience, warmth and calm
  • Hygge is also embodies by nostalgia, what memories can you create for yourself and others while also reflecting on your own childhood memories

Autumn hygge journaling for you;

  • What does Autumn/Fall mean to you? Use all your senses to describe what the season makes you feel.
  • What’s your best childhood Autumn memory? Try and capture it using all the senses: how did it sound, taste, look, smell?
  • What are your favourite smells of Autumn? Smell is particularly nostalgic, so do these scents remind you of particular times or people in your life?
  • Do the last prompt for sights, sounds, textures and tastes of Autumn as well.
  • Do you have a favourite picture that captures the essence of Autmn/Fall for you?
  • Which book or scene in a book best encapsulates Autumn for you, and why?
  • Is there a recipe or a taste or flavour that absolutely sums up Autumn for you?
  • Make a list, or lists, of your favourite Autmn/Fall films, books and music. Is there a link between them all? (are they all country based, set in a particular area, or about a particular time of life?)
Taking the time to journal on how Autumn makes you feel can encourage you to bring that sense of comfort to you, your home and your family. When Autumn arrives it can feel like a new start, this is a way to bring these seasonal comforts into your present moment. Your lists could become the collection of films, books you love or creating a playlist to play while you are planning or cleaning.

    1. Aww Thank you so much. I am getting more and more passionate about hygge the more I learn and intertwining it with the wheel of the year. I love that you have travelled there, I want to see more places in that part of the world, their way of life is just so balanced.
